Record your 'Heartbeat Message' for WAGGGS Sept 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Stand Up and make your heart beat for the Millennium Development Goals and girls around the world!

At the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 world leaders committed to end poverty by 2015 and to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Ten years later, in September 2010, world leaders will come together once again to review progress made and agree on the way forward. With only five years to go to 2015 urgent action is needed.

This year, a special edition of the Stand Up, Take Action Against Poverty campaign has been launched. WAGGGS encourages everyone to Stand Up and Make Noise on 17th- 19th of September, just before leaders arrive at the UN MDG+10 Summit in New York.

But you don’t need to wait until September. You can start recording your ‘heartbeat messages’ throughout the summer. They could feature on the WAGGGS website and be presented as part of the Stand Up campaign!

One simple action can make a big difference!

We are asking all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to record their ‘heartbeat messages’ in support of the MDGs. Simply make a heartbeat rhythm or any kind of noise and record your message for the world leaders. You can do this at a summer camp, when you’re out with your friends, or just by yourself! Use your phone to take a video or record the noise you make.

Suggested message: “To beat poverty, we need less talk and more action for girls and young women! Make your heart beat for the Millennium Development Goals”

Send your recordings to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or send us photos and description of your heartbeat activity.

From the 20th- 22nd of September, 2010, Heads of State will meet again at the United Nations headquarters to review the successes, to learn from the failures, and to discuss the launch of detailed plans to achieve the MDGs by 2015. We need to Stand Up and encourage them to keep the promises they have made to end extreme poverty.

Make your heart beat for the Millennium Development Goals
