Avon Scout County and Girlguiding Bristol & South Gloucestershire
JOINT GUIDE & SCOUT ROWING and PULLING CLUB
INSTRUCTOR’S COURSE
Our Scouts, Explorers, Guides and Rangers can now learn to row, handle a boat, work as a crew and have fun, while exploring the historic Bristol Harbourside. They can also gain activity badges for Pulling and Nautical Skills (Scouts) or Outdoor Pursuits and Water Safety (Guides) or D of E Award activity requirements, all under the eye of our Scout/Guide qualified Instructors.
Last year – our first - the Club was hugely successful in running evening fun/taster sessions afloat in the Docks for more than 200 Scouts and Guides. Our provision was limited only by the number of Instructors we were able to deploy. IF ONLY WE HAD MORE INSTRUCTORS WE COULD PROVIDE EVEN MORE ADVENTURE .…!
So this year we are putting on a special training course for adults who might want an Adventurous Activity Permit and/or an Authorisation for Pulling/Rowing from the Scout and Guide and Associations… and the whole thing is great fun for us too!
The formal part of the Course requires attendance at 5 training sessions, followed by a period of skill acquisition to gain experience afloat with young people before assessment, and is led by the Scout County Advisers, John Jones and Peter Calton.
