Guiding Star Competition Winners PDF Print E-mail

Kerry and Rachel are through to the regional finals of Girlguiding's "Guiding Star" competition. Congratulations to everyone involved in the County event - there were some fantastic performances.

Here's what the Weston Mercury had to say about it...

Kerry and Rachel are looking forward to the regional heats.
Kerry and Rachel are looking forward to the regional heats.

A GIRL Guide from Wraxall has won through the first stages of a competition which could see her perform with some of the country's top pop acts.

Kerry Westgate has won through to the regional finals of the Guiding Star competition and will now compete against other guides in May.

The prize for the winning singer will be to perform at the Big Gig 2007, a huge pop concert organised by GirlGuiding UK in October this year, alongside acts including Girls Aloud, Shayne Ward and Geri Halliwell.

She impressed the judges with her rendition of Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles.

If she wins through the regional heats, she will then go forward to the national finals in Sheffield in June.

County Commissioner of GirlGuiding in Somerset North, Sue Maybury, said: "The girls are so excited.

"The judges certainly had their work cut out to choose the winner and I think she certainly has what it takes to make it to the final."

Kerry will be joined by fellow guide Rachel Dunston of Weston-super-Mare who also won through to the regional heats.

Rainbows celebrate 20th birthday PDF Print E-mail

Rainbows are 20 years old!

That's how long the Rainbow section has been going. It's been great fun from the start, and thousands of 5-7 year old girls have been part of it. Now though, it's the turn of the current Rainbows from Yeo Vale Division to celebrate with a special birthday party.
