Hello from Karen and Sue! PDF Print E-mail

We were both surprised and happy when we were asked to be Joint County Commissioners for Somerset North; this is the first time a job share has been done for the County Commissioner post, and we look forward to the next five years, and hope that you will be pleased with our plans, several of which you have suggested.

Between us we have 75 years as adult leaders, and have held various appointments, the last being Division Commissioner for Clevedon & Portishead, and County Outdoor Activity Adviser

We are both Unit Guiders, so we know what you do for your units is very important to the girls, and that a lot of time and hard work goes into planning lots of activities, and we thank you for your continued support.

We hope you are enjoying the summer break and that if you have been on Camp or Holiday that you had a great time; and if you are getting ready to go, we hope you have fun and that the weather stays fine!

Can we ask you to take photos of some of your activities and Email them to us, so we can include some in future presentations’ & publications.

Saturday 8th October will be our next County Day and there are some great activities to do, sessions to attend, and stalls to visit!

We are looking forward to seeing you there so please come up and speak to us, as we would like to get to know as many people as possible.

Also, we’d really like to be invited to your units, and to any District events; we want to enjoy your Guiding with you!

Our first County Day for 18 months on 14th May was a great success and the start of a new era for Girlguiding Somerset North.  After five wonderful years as County Commissioner I officially handed over the role to our two new Joint County Commissioners, Karen Rees and Sue Betts.

In a short ceremony I presented Karen and Sue with their new Commissioner Badges and wished them every success as they start their new adventure. Both Karen and Sue have a great deal of experience in guiding and also in their professional lives which, I am sure, will help them take the County forward.

Somerset North thank you

It was a pleasure to present awards and certificates to our leaders who have given many years of outstanding service at our recent Awards Evening. It was particularly good to see many Baden-Powell Guides support the event and receive congratulations from the County for their achievement.  Two new Queen’s Guide Awards were presented; this is the highest award our young people can achieve.

Welcome to this new feature of our web site!

Over the summer months the leaders and members of Somerset North have been enjoying amazing activities and camps celebrating the Centenary of Guiding.  On a lovely sunny day in June, we all spent a wonderful day at our SNAP (Somerset North Action Packed!) event held at Ashton Court.  All of our members enjoyed a great day of activities and it was lovely to see all sections from Rainbows to the Trefoil Guild, coming together to celebrate and enjoy much of what guiding has to offer.
