What splendid weather we had for the Somerset North Mendip ‘trek’ on Sunday. The route took the group through dense woods, around the ramparts of the iron age fort at Dolebury Warren and up through the ferns to Black Down for lunch. There was plenty of opportunity to map read and use the compass! After testing the emergency shelter, it was on to the highest point of the Mendips at the Beacon Batch trig point for a panoramic view, then down over Burrington Ham and the steep descent into the Combe. We covered a total of 13km in all and celebrated with a drink at the Tea Shop!
